How many of you feel the struggle to get out of bed, sit at the desk, and merely start working? The first step often is the hardest, but once in flow, everything starts falling into place. If this is the case, you’re not alone.

The way you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Working from home demands discipline and structure. One must have a routine to make work from home successful, or else you’ll end up mixing both your personal and professional life, and trust me, it isn’t a very favorable situation.

It’s better to be proactive and build a morning ritual that puts you into work mode from your rest mode. In this article, we will discuss how to create an effective morning routine for professionals who are working from home.

Wake-Up-Early.

Wake Up Early

Our parents have taught us the benefits of waking early since we were kids. This trend of staying up late at night has been doing nothing but impacting our health. Even though companies offer us flexible working hours, we must decide how to use this flexibility wisely.

An adult requires at least 7 hours of sleep to function efficiently. Respecting that, one must know how to manage their schedule. Waking up early has multiple benefits –

  • Keeps you consistent
  • Your body aligns with a natural rhythm
  • Helps your mind transition from rest to readiness

(Tip – Try waking up at the same time every day.)

Exercise: Fuel Your Body

The benefits of exercise need no introduction, but their importance increases for work-from-home professionals. Sitting all day at one place with zero commuting, provided you do not go to the office, your body does get compromised. Once your physical health starts deteriorating, your mental health starts getting worse in no time.

Start by incorporating some kind of physical exercise into your daily routine. Not only will it keep you healthy, but also happy, fresh, and active. You can go to the gym early in the morning, do yoga, go jog, or run.

Try Avoiding Technology Early In The Morning.

Deep down, we do know that technology is somehow impacting us a lot. It can affect our mental sharpness & emotional resilience. Here’s what you can do instead –

  • Try the 5 A.M. club method popularized by Robin Sharma – Wake up at 5 A.M., spend 20 minutes planning, 20 minutes exercising, 20 minutes learning
  • You can try meditation
  • Try being spiritually active and connecting to the supreme power; it helps.
Dont-Forget-Hydration.

Don’t Forget Hydration.

Hydration is super important for the body, especially after 7-8 hours of sleep. You must begin your day with drinking water. Here are a few ways –

  • Option 1 – A glass of warm water with lemon to boost metabolism
  • Option 2 – Herbal tea, like green tea or chamomile tea
  • Option 3 – Water infused with cucumber or mint to refresh you.
 Create A To-Do List

Morning hours are the most effective, and one must try not to waste them.  Create a to-do list, be it the night before. There are various ways of creating a to-do list.

  • Bifurcate your tasks into – Urgent vs. Important, this way you’d know what task needs your attention first
  • Try the Big 3 method, where you identify the 3 most important tasks to focus on the key goals.
  • Try Digital tools available like Notion or Todoist for a tech-savvy approach
Set Up Yourself & Your Workspace

Before starting with the work, try setting up your workspace, and clearing it to avoid distractions. Checking for the essentials, i.e., laptop, mouse, notepad, water bottle, pen. So that you don’t keep running for every single thing. Add a small photo, a quote, or maybe a plant. It freshens up the mind and keeps you motivated.

Do not sit directly; take a quick shower, and dress up well. It gets you into work mode, Pyjamas keep you laid back.

Conclusion

Discipline is the key to success, and the way to achieve that discipline is by having a schedule. Also, merely having a schedule isn’t enough; you must have the zeal to follow it religiously. All it takes is consistency to achieve all of this. Staying consistent is indeed a task when it comes to working from home.

Follow these key steps daily, and trust me, you’ll feel changes within a week. If not all, try taking small steps, including one new habit daily, into the schedule.

Remember, building a schedule is like building a muscle. It takes time, patience, and effort.
